Data

The CSU subscribes to three data bases: The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), the Roper Center, and California Speaks (CALSPEAKS). Until it ceased operation at the end of 2016, the CSU also subscribed to The Field Poll. This section of our site also provides links to selected external sites providing access to data.

ICPSR
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), established in 1962, is an integral part of the infrastructure of social science research. ICPSR maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction, and offers training in quantitative methods to facilitate effective data use. Some ICPSR data are made available through a license to the CSU, and are not to be provided to non-CSU personnel.

Field Polls
The Field (California) Poll operated continuously from 1947-2016 as an independent, non-partisan, media-sponsored public opinion news service and has issued over 2,000 different reports. Field data are made available through a license to the CSU, and are not to be provided to non-CSU personnel. Field data are still available here.

Other
In addition to the data resources to which the CSU subscribes, there are a growing number of other (mostly publicly available) sources of data.
